For many, when trying to lose weight, inflammation, hydration, and making one choice at a time are the first issues that need to be addressed. And, believe it or not, these are EASY habits to get you on the fast road to health.
INFLAMMATION
Many foods cause inflammation in our joints and tissues, which in turn causes us to feel (and actually look on the scale) heavier. Here are a few tips on how to get that inflammation under control. When you do, your body moves better, with less pain, and you can feel better.
°Added Sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup - This is a biggie! Where can you cut this out? Maybe 1 cookie instead of 12 (I know, I know, it's asking a lot ;). Diet Soda or Stevia Soda instead of sugar soda? Replacing breakfast cereal with eggs or whole grains. And, using spices instead of sauces and condiments.
°Processed Meats - Cutting back on bacon, sausage, and deli meat. No more nights out at House of Bacon, folks!
°Trans Fats - Cutting back on fried foods, margarine, non-dairy coffee creamers, and packaged baked goods (doughnuts got hit a couple times in this one, I guess they're only for super special occasions ;).
°Refined Carbohydrates - Instead of white bread and white pasta, find whole grain breads and pastas. And, instead of white rice, brown rice or another grain.
°Alcohol - Little to no alcohol does a body good!

HYDRATION
The more water you drink the more full you feel, the less calories you eat, it boosts your metabolism to burn more calories, and water is essential to breakdown and get rid of fat. Who knew? Here are a couple simple tips to increase your hydration:
°Use a STRAW when you drink - Did you know that people who drink out of a STRAW tend to drink more? It's true!
°Use a larger cup - If I have a straw and a large cup that keeps things cool, I'm set!
°Use an app to help you track your water - Here's a fun app that turns hydrating into a game. It helps you track the amount of water you need to drink each day. The app is called Plant Nanny and can be found in any app store. The picture below links directly to the Apple app store.
ONE CHOICE AT A TIME
Keeping perspective is so important and remembering that just because you may have chosen that margarita after the kids went to bed last night, doesn't mean you need to choose the fried mozzarella sticks to go with it. One choice and one step at a time. Remember, I'm not a doctor. I'm just a health and wellness coach doing my best to help others find the joy I have found in choosing health.
