What is metabolic syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that together increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. It can lead to other health problems as well, like conditions related to plaque buildup in artery walls and increasing the risk of organ damage, stroke, or heart attack. Other names for Metabolic syndrome: Insulin resistance, Dysmetabolic syndrome.
Criteria for metabolic syndrome
A person meets the criteria for metabolic syndrome if they have at least three of the five following indicators (90% of adults in American have metabolic dysfunction):
High blood pressure
Elevated blood sugar (impaired glucose tolerance)
Low HDL cholesterol (high density lipoproteins—the good cholesterol that carries away the gunk in our system)
High triglycerides (main form of fat in your blood and body fat stores)
Abdominal obesity (visceral fat around or in your organs, large waist circumference—40 inches for men and 35 inches for women)
Additional factors to consider:
Insulin resistance: sarcopenic obesity or loss of muscle plus increased fat (especially visceral fat). Linked to insulin resistance and metabolic complications. Some researchers call this a “metabolic-sarcopenic syndrome."
Tiredness (loss of energy)
Loss of bone density (osteoporosis, osteopenia and failure to preserve muscle mass is a key contributor)
Loss of skeletal muscle mass
Who am I?
I am part of a national network of professional health coaches focused on reversing metabolic dysfunction and improving overall metabolic health.
I am a certified health coach with OPTAVIA. Working with me, we can reverse metabolic dysfunction and improve your overall metabolic health.
Metabolic Health includes having healthy blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, removing abdominal visceral fat, and removing unwanted body weight. We can do that while protecting your muscle mass, which in turns supports good bone density.
Studies show that working with me, you will lose 10x’s more weight, 17x’s more fat, and preserve 98% of your lean body mass (your muscle.)
Optavia Fuelings
Optavia fuelings were designed by doctors for their patients. The focus is reversing metabolic dysfunction and improving overall metabolic health.
Fuelings provide perfectly balanced protein, healthy fats, and low glycemic carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and probiotics—dense all-natural nutrition to reverse metabolic dysfunction and improve overall metabolic health.
These power-packed fuelings also have around 100 calories. We feed your body everything it needs for metabolic health but fewer calories than the body’s metabolic rate (the number of calories needed to sustain your current weight). This causes the body to burn its own fat. For every pound of fat that is burned, 3,500 calories of energy are released. With OPTAVIA, we feed your body everything it needs to be healthy but fewer calories that it needs to function creating fat burn. This is the safest way to lose those unwanted inches and pounds!
I recommend fueling your body every three hours with either an OPTAVIA fuelings or a lean and green meal (5-7 oz of lean protein & vegetables). This feeds the body everything it needs to reverse metabolic dysfunction and improve overall metabolic health while the body is burning unwanted fat.
Once a person is metabolically healthy and at the desired weight, we introduce additional healthy foods from the grocery store, including more lean proteins, extra vegetables, fresh fruits, and other options designed to meet your unique metabolic rate.
Using this weight management system, and working side by side with me, a Certified Health Coach with OPTAVIA, a person can lose 10x’s more weight, 17x’s more fat, while maintaining 98% of your lean body mass (your muscle). Muscle mass can also be enhanced by adding EAAs (essential amino acids) and whey protein to the fuelings.
What's next to be healthy in the long term?
Muscle burns more calories than fat. The more muscle you have, the more calories you can consume in order to meet your metabolic rate as you transition to ultimate health. My mission is your success!!
Weight management is so much more than losing weight. You will always want the primary focus to be your metabolic health: healthy blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, low abdominal fat, and healthy body composition (lean muscle to fat percentages).
Some lose weight by simply eating less calories than the body needs—its metabolic rate. They might use weight loss drugs, drops, or diets low in nutrition. However, what happens to your metabolic health when you lose weight without the proper nutritional support? You weigh less, but you are significantly less healthy. You get skinnier, but weaker. You will want to become fit, strong, and foundationally healthy. Strong not skinny.
